This is a very rare 18K white gold limited edition dodecagon-shaped Model 1 Automaton Quarter Repeating automatic wristwatch, released to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Corum Admirals Cup circa 1995.
Corum Model 1 – 1 of 20 in 18k White Gold Bracelet
An exceptionally rare opportunity to acquire number 1 of just 20 pieces produced in 18k white gold.
Only 40 Model 1 watches were ever made: 10 in yellow gold, 10 in rose gold, and 20 in white gold. This particular example is further distinguished by being fitted to a full 18k white gold bracelet, whereas the majority of the 40 pieces were delivered on leather straps.
The 41mm dodecagon-shaped 18k white gold case is engraved “1/20” to the side, with a bezel engraved with minute divisions. The solid case back is secured by six screws.
The silvered engine-turned dial features applied baton hour markers and three remarkable shuttered apertures. When the repeating mechanism is activated by rotating the bezel:
-
Two upper apertures at 11 and 1 o’clock reveal pennant flags that wave in time with the chiming of the hours and quarter hours
-
The larger aperture at 6 o’clock opens to reveal a rotating polo match automaton scene
Powering this extraordinary display is the Frederic Piguet calibre 71 automatic jewelled movement, paired with a quarter-repeater module by master watchmaker Christophe Claret. The mechanism strikes two gongs via twin hammers and represents Claret’s renowned expertise in complex complications including repeaters, tourbillons, and perpetual calendars.
Founded in 1986, Claret supplied high complication movements to some of the most prestigious names in haute horlogerie, including Breguet, Cartier, Chopard, Corum, Franck Muller, Girard-Perregaux, Harry Winston, Parmigiani Fleurier, and Ulysse Nardin — many of whom chose him specifically for his mastery of chiming mechanisms.
This watch remains in excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition and is presented with its Corum box set.
A rare and highly collectible timepiece combining precious metal, extreme scarcity, and an exceptional repeater and automaton complication — and notably number one of twenty.
